Rules of Budapest Jack and Jill Tango Competition
IV. Budapest Jack and Jill Tango Competition - 2019
Maximum 20 leaders and 20 followers will participate in the competition. Applications are expected online on www.jackandjilltango.com . Registrations are accepted chronologically. After having reached 20 registrations, the next 10 applicants will be put on a waiting list. The final participantion list will be published on the site www.tango.blog.hu with 24 hours before the competition. Applications are accepted only: gentleman as Jack (leader) and ladys as Jill (follower). If an applicant does not check-in personally on the day of the competition until 18:00, the next reserved applicant will get the opportunity to check-in. At the personal registration the participants will receive a number that is to wear visibly during the whole competition.
The jury consist of 4 members.

The competition will have 2 rounds: semi-final and final
Date of semi-finals: 11. May 2019.
Date of final: 12. May 2019.
The participants will be sorted in couples by drawing the los for each tanda. The 20 couples will be dancing at the same time.
The semi-final tandas consist of three traditional tandas (tango, vals, milonga) and one nuevo tango. The participants shall dance on each tanda with a different partner according to the previous lot. The competitors will not get to know the songs of the tandas beforehand.
The competitors will evaluate their partners with scores from 1 to 10 throughout the 4 tandas. The higher the score the higher the satisfaction with the partner.The same scores may not to be given to more partners. The evaluation shall be written on the dance cards after the competition-tanda.
Aspects of evaluation:
• cooperation (conformity with the partner, fluency of leading and following, communication)
The 5 leaders and 5 followers with the highest score will reach the final.
Vote of audience: The members of the audience may vote on one of the couples of the semi-finals on the ballot-paper. Each member of the audience may vote only for one couple. The competitors may not vote. The couple, who receives most of the votes from the audience, will participate in the final as well.
The final consists of four tandas.
First tanda: traditional tango
Second tanda: traditional vals
Third tanda: traditional milonga
Fourth tanda: nuevo tango
The participants do not know the songs beforehand. The competitors are dancing on each tandas with a different partner according to the lot.
5.1. Drowing of couples
The dancing couples are selected by drawing lot from the registered leaders and followers on the day of the competition. For each tanda of the competition this procedure will be repeated.
5.2. Evaluation and awards
Two awards will be given by the jury.
“Best Jack - Best Leader” and “Best Jill - Best Follower”
The members of the jury evaluate the leaders and followers separately. On the evaluation sheet each leader and each follower will be evaluated with a ranking from 1 to 6. The best dancer will get the first position. The same placement cannot be given to various dancers. The scores of the competitors are given by the total of place-numbers given by judges. The award “Best Jack” will be given to the leader with the fewest scores, the award “Best Jill” will be given to the follower with the fewest scores.
No further positions will be awarded.
6.Aspects of evaluation:
• conformity with the partner
• fluency of leading / following
• harmony with the partner
• harmony with the music
The “Most Harmonious Couple” - Award of the audience
The members of the audience may select one couple who will be nominated for the award of “Most Harmonious Couple”. The votes shall be given on the ballot paper. Each member of the audience may vote only for one couple. The competitors of the final may not vote. The award goes to the couple who received the most votes.No further positions will be awarded.
Special Award to Best Partners
The competitors are evaluating their partners with scores from 1 to 10 during the 4 tandas. The more they are satisfied with their partner the higher they will score. The same scores may not to be given to more partners. The evaluation shall be written on the dance cards after the competition-tanda. The Best Partner ("Favorite of Jack", "Favorite of Jill") award goes to the leader and follower who are receiving the highest scores from their partners. Further placements will not be awarded.
Aggregating of scores
The organisers are collecting the evaluation sheets from the jury and the dance cards from the participants after the tandas and the votes of the audience. They count the scores. In case of equality of scores the Chairman decides who shall receive the award from the two participants with equal scores.
